Winter Storm Warnings Now Followed By Lake Effect WarningPosted: Updated:
Heavy snow hit the north country Wednesday.
A winter storm warning for Jefferson and Lewis counties ended late Wednesday afternoon, earlier than expected. For southeastern St. Lawrence County, the warning ends at 1 a.m. Thursday.
In addition, a lake effect snow warning has been issued beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday and continuing through 1 p.m. Friday. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 15 inches are expected in the most persistent lake snow areas.
Like many places, the roads were covered with snow in Jefferson County Wednesday. It prompted the sheriff's office to issue a travel advisory.
While crews were out plowing the roads, residents in Theresa were clearing their driveways.
Noah Prior was out twice Wednesday snow blowing a few different driveways.
"I just finished my place, came over and did my neighbor's, she's out to work, she works in the medical profession. I hope I put a smile on her face when she gets home," he said.
Kids had a good time in the snow as schools cancelled classes Wednesday due to the weather.
Widespread snow is expected to taper off Wednesday night and will transition to lake effect snow showers by Thursday morning.
