Sunday Sports: Two Section 3 Girls' Basketball Teams Fight for TitlesPosted: Updated:
The Section 3 girls' basketball playoffs rolled along Sunday at Onondaga Community College with two Frontier League teams looking for a spot in the finals.
First up, Sackets Harbor as they met Waterville in the Section 3 Class D semis. Sackets Harbor had their hands full against the Lady Indians of Waterville. Waterville proved too much for Sackets Harbor. Final score: Waterville 59, Sackets Harbor 39.
The Thousand Islands Lady Vikings met S.A.S. in a rematch of last years Class C title game. Thousand Islands bowed down to S.A.S with a score of 56-52.
The top seed Clarkson Lady Golden Knights completed a two-game sweep of Yale in their ECAC quarterfinal series Saturday at Cheel Arena with a 4-1 win.
Now the 31-4-1 Lady Golden Knights get ready for the ECAC final four next weekend, with the Lady Golden Knights hosting both the semis and finals by virtue of being the top seed. Clarkson will be looking to repeat as conference champs after winning last year's title en route to their second NCAA. championship.
As for the Clarkson men, they will enjoy a bye in the opening round of the ECAC. playoffs which begin this coming weekend. Clarkson picked up its 20th win of the season Saturday night to move to 20-8-6 overall and ended an eight-game winless streak in the process. The Golden Knights, ranked ninth in the nation, will next be in action March 9 through 11 when they host a quarterfinal series at Cheel Arena.
As for the Skating Saints of St. Lawrence, they hit the road for opening round action of the ECAC playoffs. As the 12th seed in the ECAC. playoffs the Skating Saints travel to New Hampshire this coming weekend for a quarterfinal series with fifth-seed Dartmouth.
