Watertown Aldi Plans Expansion

Watertown Aldi Plans Expansion

Posted: Updated:

Watertown's Aldi grocery store is hoping to expand.

The Jefferson County planning board Tuesday reviewed a proposal to expand Aldi's Arsenal Street store.

The plan would expand the existing store more than 2,000 square feet in order to add another aisle.

The new store would have a larger sign out front and a new parking lot configuration. There'd be designated spots for Amish shoppers so they wouldn't have to tie their horse and buggies to lamp posts.

"It's a small addition to the building so they will add -- I believe they are adding another aisle into the store," senior county planner Andrew Nevin said, "so they will have more shopping area in the store."

The new parking lot will lose some spaces to the new aisle, but Nevin said it won't be a significant loss and the new number meets the city's parking requirements.

The plan now goes back to the city for approval.
