3 Captured Near Massena For Illegal Border CrossingsPosted: Updated:
Three foreign nationals were sentenced in federal court recently after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges they entered the United States illegally.
All three either crossed the border from Canada near Massena or were apprehended there.
Thirty-three year old Dwayne Berry of Toronto, a citizen of Jamaica, was sentenced on February 22 to 60 days in jail.
Berry admitted to crossing the border about three miles west of the Trout River Port of Entry on February 2. Trout River is in Franklin County
He was found by Border Patrol agents on a bus in Massena. Berry wasn't allowed in the U.S. because of his criminal history in Canada.
Forty-three year old Surinder Singh and 27 year old Anil Singh, both of India, were each sentenced on February 23 to time served -- four days in jail -- following their guilty pleas to illegally entering the United States from Canada near Massena.
Surinder Singh admitted that he crossed the border approximately five miles east of the Massena Port of Entry on February 18. He was found and arrested by Border Patrol agents as he was leaving the border area as a passenger in a taxi.
