The original iron fence at the Adams Rural Cemetery is beyond repair. The cemetery has raised $8,000, but needs $17,000 in order to buy a new painted aluminum fence.
"We're looking to preserve the history of the cemetery. This is something that our ancestors put in and we just want to replace it and honor the final resting place of everybody that lived and worked in Adams," said Michele Richter, cemetery secretary & treasurer.
Richter says the goal is to complete the project by the end of this summer.
Donations for the new fence may be mailed to the Rural Cemetery Association at PO Box 59, Adams, New York, 13605.
