Part of Watertown Street Closed After Bridge Problem
Part of West Main Street in Watertown remained closed Tuesday night after a chunk of concrete broke off the railroad bridge near where West Main and Vanduzee streets meet.
Both lanes were closed for a time Tuesday night, though the westbound lane was reopened to traffic before 10 PM. However, city officials said the eastbound lane would remain closed at Vanduzee Street to allow CSX Railway, which maintains the bridge, to make repairs.
It wasn't clear Tuesday night how long the lane would remain closed, though it was possible the closure could last a couple of days.
A CSX official said an inspection of the bridge Tuesday night determined it was safe for trains to continue to use at regular speeds.
