Man Admits To Using Child In Sexual Performance

Posted: Updated:

Nearly three months after he was accused of traveling to New York to meet an underage boy, a 58 year old Vermont man has pleaded guilty to use of a child in a sexual performance.

Mark Cuppernell entered the plea Wednesday in Jefferson County Court.

Cuppernell was arrested last November. State police said he and another Vermont were on their way to Depauville to meet a male under 17 years old, but were stopped by investigators at the intersection of State Route 12 and County Route 179.

Troopers said the two had engaged in "illicit communication" with the boy, which included text, chat and images via social media.

They were each charged with use of a child in a sexual performance, first-degree disseminating indecent material, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Cuppernell will be sentenced April 23. He's expected to get 10 years probation, but no prison time.

He's also expected to be ordered to register as a sex offender.
