Gouverneur Man Charged in School Threat

Posted: Updated:

A 21 year old Gouverneur man has been charged in connection with a threat that forced the Gouverneur school system into lockdown and sent students home early last Thursday.

Charged was Jorden A. Whitton, 510 Sleepy Hollow Road, whom Gouverneur police identified as a "GED student." They said in a statement that Whitton was arrested after being interviewed Wednesday morning. He was charged with falsely reporting an incident, 1st degree, a class D felony.

Whitton was ordered held on $1,000 cash bail.

Police said the investigation "in this matter is still open and ongoing." Last week, police said they questioned two students who were released to their parents.

The school system was placed on lockdown after threatening messages were found written on the walls of a boys' bathroom.
