Howard Dean Moore, 96, of Lorraine, NY died Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Samaritan Keep Nursing Home, Watertown, NY.

The memorial service will be 1:00pm Monday, March 12th at the Lorraine Methodist Church, with Rev. Mark Pierce officiating.

Howard was born in his family home February 22, 1922 on Moore Road, Lorraine, the son of Orville H. and Mildred I. Moore.

He was a graduate of Adams High School.

He served with the US Army Air Corp from October 1942 to October 1945 in the 449th Bomb Group. During his service time he carried out 50 missions as a ball gunner flying out of Italy, ten of which were on the famous B-24 known as the “Buzzer”.

He married his high school sweetheart, Georgiabell “Jo” June Reed, in March of 1945. They had four children, Daniel Edward, Dolores Ann Stead, Mary Kathleen Barden, and David Bruce (who passed away in 1989).

The Moore family lived in Adams, NY for 7 years before moving to Minoa, NY. Dean worked for Stanley and Wieder Construction, retired in 1987, and moved back to Moore Rd., Lorraine where he enjoyed life in the country.

Dean and Jo enjoyed their family and friends in the area. They traveled, canoed, cross-country skied, have an active social and church life, square danced, and went camping.

Besides his wife, Jo, and children, he is survived by his sisters, Patricia Mahan of San Diego, Mary Alice Kogut of Lowville; 6 grandchildren: Joshua Daniel (Elizabeth) Loeb, Tamlin (Caron) Moore, Jeremy David (Michelle) Moore, Edward Cleveland Barden IV, Teressa Sue Moore, and Allyson Alexandra Barden Novoa. He is also survived by twenty-two nieces and nephews.

Besides his son, David, he is predeceased by his sister, Barbara Jean Williams, and his brothers, John Allen & Orville Harold.
