Potsdam Man Dies In On-The-Job AccidentPosted: Updated:
A Potsdam man is dead following an accident that reportedly happened as he was changing a tire while on the job Friday afternoon.
Canton police and the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) say they are both investigating the death of 33 year old Justin Miller, who worked at Atlantic Testing Laboratories on Route 11.
His obituary says the accident happened in the village of Canton. A fire official told 7 News Monday night the accident happened at 80 Lincoln Street, an old cogeneration plant in Canton, where Atlantic Testing has a shop.
OSHA confirms its Syracuse office is looking into the death and says inspectors went to Atlantic Testing Laboratories after receiving a report that a worker was killed while working on a tire.
Canton police say Miller's death isn't considered a criminal matter.
OSHA says its inspection will seek to determine what happened and whether or not there were any violations of workplace safety standards.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday night at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
On its website, Atlantic Testing calls itself an engineering support firm. The Canton-based company has nine other offices throughout New York.
OSHA says they have no record of any inspections at the firm for at least the past five years.
An official says it is not known when the investigation will be complete.
