Fire Damages Lewis County Garage

Fire Damages Lewis County Garage

Posted: Updated:

Fire damaged a "hobby garage" owned by Lewis County business Sunday evening.

The blaze broke out at a garage owned by Terry Groff's Towing at 9391 Route 12 in the town of Denmark shortly before 7 p.m.

Officials said a car that was being worked on caught fire inside the garage. One of the business owners said Monday night that the garage in question was a "hobby garage," used by the Groffs for demolition derby vehicles. The business's main garage was not damaged, and Groff's remains open.

Volunteers from Copenhagen, Castorland and Lowville fire departments were able to douse the flames quickly and save the building.

The exact cause of the blaze is under investigation.
