Massena Stabbing Victim Goes from "Critical" to "Serious" ConditionPosted: Updated:
A woman is in custody after a man was stabbed in Massena early Saturday morning.
Melinda Branham, 31, of Massena, is charged with first degree assault, a class B felony. Branham is being held on $50,000 bail at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility.
The victim in the Massena stabbing incident this weekend, Jared Phillips, of Massena has gone from critical to serious condition. Phillips is hospitalized at UVM Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont. He's being treated for what St. Lawrence County District Attorney Gary Pasqua says is a lower body injury.
He was injured during the domestic incident that ended in a stabbing at 187 Center Street, Apt 1, which is also Branham's residence.
A release from the Massena Police Department Saturday night said, "Upon arrival Officers located one male outside who was in need of medical attention and began performing life saving measures until Massena Rescue arrived."
"I woke up this morning and looked out the window, there was a guy on the red porch over there across the road on the ground and I looked on the pavement and there was blood everywhere," said Sonny Dumas, who lives across the street.
Massena Police Investigations Unit was called in to process the scene and continue the investigation.
Phillips was taken to a hospital in Burlington, Vermont for treatment. St. Lawrence County District Attorney Gary Pasqua said the injuries were to the man's lower body.
Police were on scene all morning, and crime scene tape was up in front of the house Saturday afternoon.
An officer on scene said one person was taken into custody.
