NORWOOD VILLAGE GREEN CONCERT SERIES - Founded in 1974

SLCMEA Pop Choral/Stage Band Festival                     

The Norwood Village Green Concert Series 45th Anniversary Season opens Thursday, May 31st with the annual St. Lawrence County Music Educators Association Pop Choral/Stage Band Festival. The Festival begins at 3:00 pm and will include 10 performing groups from Hermon/DeKalb, Potsdam, Lisbon, Massena, Norwood/Norfolk, and Canton School Districts.

Thursday, June 7th      1pm

Vanaver Caravan performing EarthBeat for NNCS, quest schools, and the general public.

On Thursday, June7th at 1 pm, the Norwood Village Green Concert Series continues with Dance Caravan’s production of Earthbeat. Five dancers and 4 accompanying musicians will perform music and dance from around the world. The program is a special event for Norwood-Norfolk and guest schools but the general public is invited.

The Doty’s with Joe K. Walsh

On Thursday, June 14th at 7 pm, the Norwood Village Green Concert Series presents The Doty’s with Joe K. Walsh featuring acoustic roots music performed by Karl Doty, Liesl  (pronounced Leasel) Doty, and Joe K. Walsh.  The three elite performers are currently teaching their craft at 3 universities respectively: Dartmouth, the Crane School of Music, and Berklee College.

The Grieco (Grecko) Sisters

On Father’s Day, Sunday, June 17th, the Norwood Village Green Concert Series presents a Father’s Day concert with The Grieco Sisters at 4 pm. Please remember this 4 pm starting time, as it is unusual for the series. Have Lunch or Dinner before the concert or Dinner afterwards at one of our local restaurants. A picnic would also be a nice family treat. The 5 Grieco Sisters will perform favorite songs their dad loved and so will your dad enjoy this special event.

Northern Symphonic Winds

The Norwood Village Green Concert Series presents Northern Symphonic Winds. Northern New York’s only professional wind ensemble, on Thursday, June 21st. Northern Symphonic Winds will perform music suitable to outdoor concerts. This will be the wind ensemble’s 12th appearance for the Norwood Village Green Concert Series.

Mary Ann Casale with Tas Cru

 On Sunday, June 24th the Norwood Village Green Concert Series presents regionally and nationally known local singer/songwriters Mary Ann Casale and Tas Cru teaming up to perform their original blues-based songs.

Thursday, June 28th         7pm

The All Star Big Band with guest artist Darmon Meader7 pm

On Thursday June 28th the Norwood Village Green Concert Series presents the All Star Big Band under the direction of Wally Siebel with guest artist Darmon Meader. The Grammy nominated Jazz Saxophonist, Singer, and Arrangers skills will enhance this concert and his work with Crane Youth Music campers the next day.    The concert begins at 7 pm.

Sunday, July 1ST           7pm    

The Atkinson Family Bluegrass Band

The Norwood Village Green Concert continues on Sunday, July 1st with the Atkinson Family Bluegrass Band. This Harrisville family has been at the forefront of local and regional bluegrass. In addition to performing, they annually organize the Tug Hill Bluegrass Festival.

The Potsdam Brass Quintet

The Norwood Village Green Concert Series continues on Sunday, July 8h with The Potsdam Brass Quintet.  Teaching Artists in Residence at the Crane School of Music, this quintet, founded in 1968, has been at the pinnacle of this genre since its beginning.

The Gibson Brothers

The Norwood Village Green Concert Series continues on Sunday, July 15th with The Gibson Brothers. This regional group has performed for the series since they were teenagers. The group has won every major award in the bluegrass world. They have been dubbed as “Northern New York’s Gift to the World of Bluegrass”.

Northbound

The Norwood Village Green Concert Series continues on Thursday, July 19th with Northbound,  – Six local musicians performing 50/60's Rock, Blues, and Singer/Songwriter music.

Renée Marie and Experiment in Truth

The Norwood Village Green Concert Series presents Grammy-nominated Renée Marie and Experiment in Truth

Her “Vertigo” album was awarded a coronet (crown) ranking by The Penguin Guide to Jazz, a distinction given to less than 85 other artists’ recordings in jazz history and only three other singers – Betty Carter, Sarah Vaughn, and June Christy. Her composition “This is Not a Protest Song” has become an anthem of current social issues and events. 

Thursday, July 26th       7 pm

The Norwood Village Green Concert Series presents the Brass Firemen on Thursday, July 26th at 7 pm. Also known as The Norwood Fire Department Band, the fabled group will be performing its signature community concert.

 Sunday, July 29th         6pm

Danny Gotham and Phil Hurley

The Norwood Village Green Concert Series presents Danny Gotham and Phil Hurley on Sunday, July 29th.

The two native Northern New Yorkers team up for the first time in performance. Danny Gotham now lives in Chapel Hill NC, while Phil lives in Austin, Texas where both are active in their rich local music scenes.

Joey DeFrancesco

The Norwood Village Green Concert Series continues on Thursday, August 2nd when it presents 4 –time Grammy nominated and an icon of the Hammond B3 jazz organ, Joey DeFrancesco. With 31 recordings on this instrument, his teenage performances and tours with Miles Davis, his many awards for his masterful playing, and his weekly Sirius Radio show “Organized” keep Joey DeFrancesco in a very elite category – a living icon and legend.

The Battle of Santiago

On Sunday, August 5th the Norwood Village Green Concert Series will close out its 45th Anniversary season with a performance by The Battle of Santiago, where Canadian Rock meets the Rhythms of Cuba. Based in Toronto, 4 Canadian Rock musicians team up with 3 Cuban percussionists in a dynamic and unusual mix of world music that is emotively fiery.
