A tractor-trailer driver and his dog are okay after their rig rolled over Tuesday night.

The accident happened around 11 p.m. on State Route 37 in the town of Theresa.

Firefighters say the driver apparently swerved to avoid hitting a deer in the road.

The driver was trapped in the truck and it took 45 minutes to get him out.

He was transported to Samaritan Medical Center with minor injuries.

"He actually walked away from the truck. We got him on a stretcher," Theresa Fire Chief Mark Savage said. "He was in good spirits when he left here. Lots of cuts and bruises, a little sore, but other than that, he's alive and doing well."

The dog was also rescued. Firefighters say it seemed okay, but was taken to the Thousand Islands Animal Hospital to be checked out.

Theresa, Redwood, Plessis, and Philadelphia fire departments responded.
