Enjoying A Taste Of SummerPosted: Updated:
Construction workers inserted the foundation of a new footbridge at Wellesley Island State Park in Fineview Wednesday. The bridge will eventually connect to one of the park's trail systems.
"We are building a thing called a helical pile bridge. Basically, helical piles are screws that we screw into the ground with a machine and then we build a wooden deck on top of that for a bridge," said Mike Woodford, co-owner of Woodford Brothers Inc.
And although it was business as usual, the warm weather was certainly a breath of fresh air.
"We are from down by Syracuse. We have been working outside all spring in the snow and stuff so this is kind of a welcome change," said Woodford.
It may be a bit quiet - in the middle of the week - but the good weather certainly wasn't lost to those at the Thousand Island State Park.
"This morning, the weather progressively got warmer and warmer and when I took the dog out, it was just glorious," said Jaysree Whitelaw, Sylvan Beach resident.
The temperature was in the low 80s at the park Wednesday and for one woman who rents a cabin every year for her birthday, it was a welcome surprise.
"I love it! The hotter the better. I am so sick of the cold. It feels great to me, it could be 80 degrees all year round and I would be happy," said Char Patterson, Gloversville resident.
And the birds didn't seem to mind it either.
