Sign Of New Jobs In Watertown?Posted: Updated:
Mobile advertising is nothing new - on buses, taxis, you name it.
But the two guys behind Runningboards Marketing in Watertown want their trucks, which have three digital billboards mounted on them, to be a springboard to a larger goal.
"As we prove out these first two trucks, we plan to get into manufacturing the trucks. We've got some ideas, some patent ideas, and we want to develop a franchise system and sell franchises around the country," said Calvin McNeely, president of Runningboards Marketing.
McNeely went into partnership with Zach Yelle last fall and for about a month now they've been driving their truck around the city.
While the advertising capabilities of their truck are obvious, Yelle and McNeely plan on using it in as many ways as they can think of - whether it's to show live drone footage of an event or as a giant screen to entertain kids at birthday parties.
Plug in the speakers, fire up the Xbox, and the billboards turn into massive TV screens.
"We can have an Xbox game on one screen, a movie on the other screen, and then a slide show of a kid growing up on the back for maybe a birthday party or a graduation party," said Yelle.
Yelle and McNeely are in the process of putting a second truck on the road and hiring drivers. They'll put their drones to the test this Saturday at the Run to the Sun race in Watertown.
