Boldt Castle Open for Season, Hoping for Smoother Waters

Posted: Updated:

A stark difference from last season's opening weekend when many parts of Boldt castle's grounds were flooded.

"Things are starting out very well here. We're very blessed with some great weekend weather here," said Facilities Director Shane Sanford.

He added it doesn't look like there will be a repeat of last spring..

"It's great relief for the entire region, certainly here at Boldt Castle," he said.

Sanford hopes to see this season's visitor count reach 200,000, adding that's a typical number for a good year at this popular river destination, one that attracts people from Canada and all over the United States.

"I was in the area for work and looking for things to do to occupy my time on my day off. I'm a big fan of many different styles of architecture," said Susan Schneider, from Maryland.

New this season, Boldt Castle launched a smart phone app that will take you on a tour through the castle's grounds and history.

"We thought this would be a way to enhance the visitor's experience here on Heart Island and their overall knowledge of Boldt Castle," said Sanford. "While Boldt Castle was built here on the Thousand Islands? Who build it?"

And with the standard events, like a Family Fun Day, and more than sixty weddings planned throughout the summer...

"We're looking forward to a great season here in the Thousand Islands," said Sanford.
