Watertown city council members were at work at a budget hearing Tuesday night trying to balance sewer and water costs.
The water budget is projected to increase by about $34,000. That will pay for hiring a safety consultant.
At the same time, the city sewer budget is decreasing by 3 percent and officials are projecting even more savings in the coming years, about 20 percent.
City council members say the two budgets should even out costs for residents.
