Lewis County 'Team' Helps People Deal With Crisis

It's a new team to help Lewis County residents when they experience a sudden loss.

Members of the Lewis County Community Crisis Response Team held a news conference in Lowville Tuesday morning to introduce their new community service.

The eight team members are trained to help loved ones immediately after someone dies by suicide, from a drug overdose, in an accident, or from a homicide

"The team will also be providing that community level support," coordinator Crystal Collette said, "providing opportunities for the community to come together, to talk, to grieve, and to make a plan for healing."

The team will then connect those family members or loved ones with the support or services available to them in the community.

"We sometimes have to assist families with burials for people and quite often it's because it's an unplanned death and my staff is really been looking for a resource to call to say here I think these people will be able to help you," said Lewis County Department of Social Services Commissioner Jennifer Jones.
