MASSENA - Bruce Brewer Haverstock, 76, of 279 Trippany Rd, unexpectedly passed away Tuesday evening, June 12, 2018 in Watertown.

Bruce was born on January 7, 1940 in Massena, the son of the late Errol and Theresa Mersinger Haverstock and attended Massena schools. On November 12, 1960 he married Dona M. Montgomery at St. Joseph’s Church with Msgr. Harold J. Skelly, officiating.  She predeceased him on August 22, 1994.

As a young man, Bruce helped his family on the farm before working in the construction of St. Lawrence Seaway.  He later went to work for Donald Dutcher Construction and Green Island Construction until his retirement as a master mechanic. Bruce was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1141.  Bruce was a “jack of all trades”, who enjoyed woodworking, building, construction, mechanics, welding, helping others, taking care of animals, but most importantly spending time with his family and friends.

Bruce is survived by his children, Bert B. Haverstock, Katherine H. Bernard, and Robert E. Haverstock all of Massena; four grandchildren, Robert E. Haverstock, Ryan A. Bernard, Kassidy N. Haverstock, and Celeste E. Haverstock; six great grandchildren, Connor, Mackenzie, Wyatt, Kyra, Leanna, and Jeremiah. In addition, he is survived by his sisters, Deanie Wright and Phyllis J. Dimick both of Massena; his brothers, Berton Haverstock of Massena, Lon and Fern Haverstock of St. Regis Falls, and Duane and Judy Haverstock of Leesburg, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife; he was predeceased by a daughter, Lori Kay Haverstock and his mother and father-in-law, Robert and Katherine (Sucese) Montgomery.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Massena

Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Massena Humane Society or Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
