Food, Fun, Animals & A Day To Remember 'Carny Priest' At Fair

It was Monsignor McCarthy Day at the Jefferson County Fair Wednesday.
It was during day two of the fair, as people continued to enjoy the food, the rides, the exhibits, and the animals.
This was the first time the day in his honor was held following his passing in January...
Monsignor Robert McCarthy was known by many as the "carny priest" and used his days off to serve carnival workers and showmen.
Richard Reithoffer, who owns the company that brings in the rides for the fair, says Father Mac was a truly special person.
"I got to see him last year for the last time and this past winter he passed away and everybody in the show business knew," Reithoffer said. "Everybody sent their best wishes and flowers and things like that, and he is remembered and thought of very highly in our industry."
A program is put on at the fair each year in Monsignor McCarthy's honor. He would also team up with the Watertown Fire Department to take kids with disabilities to the fair.
The 201st Jefferson County Fair continues through Sunday.
