Apparent Lightning Strike Destroys Historic Lighthouse

Posted: Updated:

Thunderstorms rolled through northern Jefferson County and southern Ontario Monday night.

A historic lighthouse on the St. Lawrence River was lost to the storm due to a reported lightning strike.

Pictures from Adrian Hone of Fulford Point, Ontario show the Cole Shoal lighthouse just west of Brockville completely engulfed in flames. It dates back to 1856.

Power was knocked out for more than 1,000 National Grid customers  in the Alexandria Bay area.

Lights were back on the same night.
