Conway Takes Plea Deal Before Murder TrialPosted: Updated:
A day after the date was set for his murder trial, Michael Conway has taken a plea deal.
The 53 year old Watertown man pleaded guilty Friday in Jefferson County Court to first-degree manslaughter.
Conway was arrested on September 12, 2015 for the killing of his girlfriend, 56 year old Vicki Miller, at their home at 545 Cross Street.
An autopsy determined that Miller had died as a result of blunt force trauma to her head. According to police, Conway admitted to intentionally striking Miller in the head, causing the injuries that resulted in her death.
Conway was indicted on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault; aggravated criminal contempt, and first-degree reckless endangerment.
In return for his guilty plea, Conway faces a sentence of 13-and-a-half years in prison and 5 years of post-release supervision.
He also waives his right to appeal.
Conway will be sentenced September 7.
On Thursday, the court set Conway's murder trial for August 13.
