Canton, Potsdam & Massena Lose Out On DRI Money

St. Lawrence County once again finds itself shut out in the Downtown Revitalization competition.

Saranac Lake won, with Governor Cuomo Tuesday bestowing the $10 million prize on that community.

Watertown won the year before.

Canton, Potsdam and Massena were the three other communities vying for the prize. It was the first year the village of Massena competed.

Prize or no prize, they'll keep working on downtown.

“We've heard from our citizens and the people in our community. They want a vibrant downtown. They want a downtown they can visit. They want a downtown they can shop in. They want a downtown they can go to a theater in,” said Timmy Currier, Massena mayor.

Mayor Currier said he's happy for Saranac Lake. He said any community landing the grant is good news for the north country.
