Major General Walter Piatt is back home at Fort Drum.
The 10th Mountain Division's commanding general returned this week from Iraq, where he served as commander of the Combined Joint Forces Land Component Command - Operation Inherent Resolve and deputy commander of the Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve.
During the deployment, General Piatt and his team worked directly with the coalition and military leaders of Iraq.
Currently, fewer than 100 soldiers from the Headquarters Battalion are still deployed in support of Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve. They are expected to return home in the early fall.
In the past year, the 10th Mountain deployed approximately 9,400 Soldiers to more than 26 countries.
