Local Hospitals Look To Affiliate With Western NY Health SystemPosted: Updated:
Canton-Potsdam Hospital and Gouverneur Hospital are in the process of affiliating with a large health system in western New York.
St. Lawrence Health System, which oversees the two hospitals, announced plans Thursday to team up with Rochester Regional Health.
According to a news release, RRH and SLHS have "signed a non-binding letter of intent to negotiate an affiliation agreement between the two entities."
The groups hope to sign a deal by the end of the year and implement it no later than the fall of 2019.
Among other things, RRH oversees five hospitals and says it is its region’s second largest employer. It says its mission "is to enhance lives and preserve health by enabling access to a comprehensive, fully integrated network of the highest quality and most affordable care."
“That mission is an outstanding fit for our communities in the St. Lawrence Valley,” said David Acker, President and CEO of St. Lawrence Health System in the news release. “We have always believed that our patients deserve nothing less than leading-edge health care and they should not have to travel far to get it. Partnering with Rochester Regional allows St. Lawrence Health System to continue to elevate the standard of care delivered right here in our communities.”
SLHS also operates outpatient facilities in Antwerp, Brasher Falls, Canton, Colton, DeKalb Junction, Edwards, Gouverneur, Massena, Norfolk, and Potsdam. It's the largest employer in St. Lawrence County, with 1,500 employees.
