Victims Assistance Center Seeks Nurses

Posted: Updated:

The Victims Assistance Center of Jefferson County is seeking nurses to help victims of sexual assault.

The center needs registered nurses, or nurses of a higher title, to join its new Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, or SANE, program, which helps victims in Jefferson and Lewis counties.

It's part-time, on-call Work and nurses would be sent out to hospitals to conduct forensic rape exams.

"Currently the hospitals in our area have to send victims to Syracuse. They just don't have the expertise right now to conduct a forensic exam, so we want to try to reduce the trauma of sending them in an ambulance to another hospital that's over an hour away," said Erin Fazio, SANE Program coordinator.

Contact the Victim's Assistance Center at 315-782-1823 to sign up.
