Saturday Sports: North Country Tigers Continue In Championships

The Northeastern Football Alliance AA Division Semifinals took place Saturday night in Potsdam with the North Country Tigers hosting Brunswick for a spot in the championship game next week.

In the 1st quarter, Garen Arnold hit Dylan Baker for a 9 yard touchdown. Then it was Eric Labier for a 1 yard touchdown. Score:14-0 Tigers. Labier scored his 2nd touchdown of the game, this one from 8 yards out. 28-0 Tigers. The Tigers went on to win 41-0.

Section 10 football topping the local sports menu Saturday. In Potsdam, a matchup of 2 unbeaten teams as the Sandstoners hosted the Gouverneur Wildcats. Caleb Farr called his own number, putting the Wildcats on top 6-0. Potsdam's lone score came in the 3rd quarter as Hunter Sheehan went 80 yards for the touchdown. Score: 20-8 Gouverneur. Jacob Shippee answered with a 2 yard dive as Gouverneur beat Potsdam 28-8.

Meantime in Canton, the Golden Bears hosted St. Lawrence Central. Canton's Reese Ryan sneaks in on an opening drive: 6-0 Canton. In the 2nd quarter, Declan Porter scrambled and took it in himself. Score: 14-0 Canton. The Larries answered as Jaw Robinson broke a tackle and goes 70 yards for the touchdown: 14-7 Canton. The Golden Bears go on to beat St. Lawrence Central 34-7.

College football from Leckonby Stadium in Canton, the Saints hosted Norwich.

Saints quarterback, Tyler Groshot with a record setting day, The freshman would complete 30 of 48 passes for 446 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Saints bounced back from a tough overtime loss to Utica last week and got their offense on track. The Saints beet Norwich 40-7.

In Girls' Frontier League soccer from Philadelphia Saturday morning, Indian River hosted Watertown. In the 1st half Watertown stroked first, Tatum Overton took a shot that bounced off the crossbar and sticks it home: 1-0 Lady Cyclones. The Lady Cyclones took the win with a final score of 3-0.

In men's college soccer from Potsdam, the Clarkson Golden Knights hosted Castleton.

Drew Lewis would score twice as Clarkson blanked Castleton 4-0 to move to 4-0 on the season. This is the first time Clarkson has been unbeaten through their first 4 games since 1990.

A boxing legend and Hall of Famer was in town Saturday night for the 10th Annual Carmen Basilio Quest for Champions at I.H.C. plenty of local talent duked it out in the ring with a special guest, Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini present.
