Woman Accused Of Sexually Assaulting ChildPosted: Updated:
A Philadelphia, N.Y woman is accused of sexually assaulting a 2 year old girl.
In a news conference late Thursday morning, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office officials said 24 year old Amber Decker, who lives at Philadelphia Courts, was arrested Wednesday night on a charge of predatory sexual assault against a child.
Sheriff Colleen O'Neill said she held the news conference because of the "magnitude of the crime and the age of the victim."
"These are horrible actions against a 2 year old girl. It's the kind of case that stays with detectives for a lifetime," she said.
The felony charge is punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
Officials say the FBI is involved because of a possible suspect in another state. Federal charges could be filed.
Deputies were tipped off September 2 by an uninvolved party who suspected criminal activities.
Police then got warrants to collect electronic evidence from Decker, which Sheriff O'Neill described as "substantial."
"Ms. Decker was interviewed several times, provided an account of her actions and some electronic evidence," said O'Neill.
Decker was arraigned in Hounsfield town court Thursday morning and held in county jail without bail.
