Posted: Updated:

A man who was arrested over the summer for allegedly filing false tax exemption paperwork is the Republican candidate for the 118th Assembly District.

Robert Smullen defeated fellow Republican Patrick Vincent.

He takes on Democrat Keith Rubino in November.

The race is to replace Marc Butler, a Republican who is retiring from the position.

The district covers nine towns in St. Lawrence County, including the towns of Clare, Clifton, Colton, Fine, Madrid, Norfolk, Parishville, Pierrepont and Stockholm.
