Millions of dollars in state aid are on the line for north country projects.

A group of area leaders, called the North Country Regional Economic Development Council, has put together a list of 9 priorities in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties. The list goes to Albany in hopes lawmakers will put up the money to move the projects forward.

In Jefferson County, the list includes $3.2 million to build a new YMCA community center in downtown Watertown. The proposal included a rendering of the building (pictured above).

"We're really excited to be on that list and what it means is that the Regional Economic Development Council gave us a vote of confidence and recognize the need for our project," said Watertown YMCA Chief Executive Officer Denise Young.

There's also a request for $3 million for a new facility for Carthage Area Hospital.

And, the list includes $1.8 million to improve River Hospital in Alexandria Bay.

In St. Lawrence County, some of the projects include $940,000 to improve the Port of Ogdensburg and $1.1 million for renovations at Canton-Potsdam Hospital

In Lewis County, Omniafiltra is seeking state money to help buy equipment for its Beaver Falls paper mill.

The state decides on how much cash the projects get in December.
