Ogdensburg Fire Leads To Meth Arrest

Posted: Updated:

A fire at an Ogdensburg home last week led police to arrest a Heuvelton man on meth-making and other charges.

City police say the fire at the rear of the Greene Street home was put out quickly.

Their investigation led them to 24 year old Richard Schwartfigure Jr., who allegedly disposed of a bottle behind the home which contained items used to make meth. The fire started when the bottle ignited.

Police say he eluded arrest, but turned himself in a few days later.

Schwartfigure was charged with third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, unlawful disposal of methamphetamine lab material, resisting arrest, and reckless endangerment of property.

He was arraigned in Ogdensburg city court and sent to jail on $10,000 cash bail.
