Emergency Alert Sent Out Nationwide

Emergency Alert Sent Out Nationwide

Posted: Updated:

Did your cell phone buzz at 2:18 p.m. Wednesday?

If so, you were the recipient of the first presidential alert, which is part of an emergency test by the federal government.

This is the only type of wireless emergency alert that can be sent nationwide.  Alerts also were on television and radio stations.

"I think its a very good idea. I mean, there are so many prank calls on the phone; this is something more positive," said Dan Pearson, a cell phone user.

Cell phone users can not opt out of presidential alerts.
