Massena Company Plans ExpansionPosted: Updated:
Things move fast in the pharmaceuticals industry. They're moving really fast at Kingston Pharmaceuticals in Massena. The company plans to expand its plant and add full-time jobs.
“The main goal here is to actually provide as many jobs locally here as possible and provide good, stable steady jobs,” said Scott Colby, Kingston Pharmaceuticals accounting manager.
The company has 12-full time employees now and 80 part-timers. It wants to make 40 of those part-time jobs full-time. Big contracts with Dollar Tree, CVS and other retailers make that possible.
“We want to do this expansion so we are ready for the future growth,” said Srikanth Lingam, Kingston Pharmaceuticals vice president.
A new warehouse and packing facility will be built out back. The St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency put together a quarter million dollar loan package to help.
“When we had the opportunity to work with them to help provide some financing to help them continue their expansion and growth, obviously we wanted to do that,” said Patrick Kelly, agency CEO.
A previous owner was going to close the plant two years ago. It was bought by Venkat Kakani, a manager there, and another investor. Kakani is now CEO.
The New York Power Authority helped with a $200,000 grant. The money comes from excess power it sells. Kingston Pharmaceuticals will put about $2 million into the project.
