A Michigan man is accused of transporting a Romanian citizen who entered the United State illegally near Massena.

Federal prosecutors say 26 year old Gabriel Burcea of Sterling Heights allegedly met Andreea Tita Pirlica on the Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation on Saturday after she allegedly arrived there by boat.

Burcea, prosecutors say, crossed the border from Canada at the Massena port of entry the day before and had spent the night in a hotel.

The two were picked up by Border Patrol agents as they were traveling toward Massena.

If convicted, Burcea faces a maximum five-year prison term and a $250,000 fine.

Pirlica is charged with the misdemeanor crime of illegal entry.
