Voters Approve St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES Capital Project
St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES got the overwhelming go-ahead from voters Tuesday for $43.5 million in improvements to its campuses.
The capital project was approved 992 to 141. Construction on the BOCES district's three career and technical education buildings is expected to begin in 2020.
Work will cost $18.3 million at Seaway Career and Technical Education Center in Norwood, $9.76 million at Southwest Career and Technical Education Center in Fowler, and $15.5 million at Northwest Career and Technical Education Center in Ogdensburg.
The plan calls for updating plumbing, electrical systems and ventilation and adding space at Seaway Tech, which has the largest enrollment of the three centers.
The design phase will begin this week and is expected to take about five month. Plans need to be reviewed by the state Education Department, which is estimated to take about 40 weeks.
The state will pay for more than two-thirds of the project.
