An Adams teenager is off to the Army with a pat on the back from a major general and the local community.
Adrian Briones, age 19, heads to boot camp at Fort Jackson, South Carolina Monday.
The South Jefferson graduate was recognized at a Wednesday breakfast meeting of the local Association of the U.S. Army chapter.
This soon to be private will be with Tango 14 as a Patriot missile operator maintainer.
"To be doing something like this, being part of a team like the Army is exciting," said Briones.
Part of the community sendoff was the commanding general of the 10th Mountain Division.
"I can't tell you how great it is for the community to honor a young man who just enlisted in the Army. That brought back a lot of memories," said Major General Walter Piatt.
The final thing Briones will have to do, they joked, is shave his head.
