Highlights & Scores: Section 10 Class D TitlesPosted: Updated:
Section 10 soccer playoffs continued with both the boys and girls Class D finals at Potsdam High School Monday night.
Chateaugay and Heuvelton faced off in the boys game.
Heuvelton scored three times in the first half and Chateaugay scored twice in the second. The Bulldogs hung on to beat Chateaugay 3-2, win the Section 10 Class D title, and secure a berth in the New York state playoffs.
For the girls title, it was Parishville-Hopkinton vs. Heuvelton.
There was no score through regulation play and four overtimes, so it ended with a shootout.
Erica Sloan drilled the first goal for the Panthers.
Heuvelton shoots next, but Brenna Woods makes a key save for Parishville-Hopkinton.
For the final kick of the round, the Panthers were up 4-3. Emma Bloom slipped the ball in the net, winning the shootout for Parishville-Hopkinton 5-3.
It's the Panthers' first Section 10 Class D girls soccer championship and state berth since 1990.
One Frontier League soccer team is still alive in Section 3 play. The South Lewis Falcons boys team will play in the Class C final.
The 17-2 Falcons, the number-two seed, will take on top-seed Cooperstown at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill.
Cooperstown enters the game at 16-1-1. These two teams have a history with South Lewis upsetting then-number-one Cooperstown last year in the Section 3 quarterfinals.
This year's match-up is shaping up to be another exciting game, this time with the title on the line.
