Helicopter Crash Kills One North Country Man, Injures Another

One St. Lawrence County man is dead and another injured following a helicopter crash in Clinton County Tuesday afternoon.

State police say 30 year old Jeremy Kearns of Massena died and 30 year old Benjamin McAllister of Hopkinton was injured when the helicopter they were in hit power lines in the town of Beekmantown during an inspection flight.

The helicopter was partially suspended from the lines and was on fire when first responders arrived.

The pilot, a New Jersey man, was also killed and a Hyde Park, N.Y. man was injured.

The injured were taken to the University of Vermont Health Network at Champlain Valley Physician's Hospital in Plattsburgh, where they were held for observation.

An autopsy for Kearns will be conducted Thursday. An autopsy for the pilot is scheduled for Wednesday. 

The four men work for Northline Utilities, which was contracted by the New York Power Authority for the power line work.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash.
