Watertown Man Allegedly Stole Wallet, Tried To Use Credit CardsPosted: Updated:
A 30 year old Watertown man is accused of stealing a wallet and trying to use the credit cards inside.
City police arrested Peter Nelli of 423 Lincoln Street on Thursday. He's charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
According to police, a woman forgot her wallet at one of the registers at the Aldi Store on Arsenal Street.
Store security video showed a man taking the wallet and putting into a paper bag. Within a short time of the wallet being stolen, someone attempted to make an unauthorized purchase with two of the stolen credit cards at the LeRay Street Dairy Market in the city.
Detectives were able to identify the suspect from the Aldi video. As a result of the investigation, police said they were able to recover some of the stolen property.
Nelli was issue a ticket to appear in city court on November 14.
City police were assisted in the investigation by the Metro Jeff Drug Task Force, uniformed patrol and the Jefferson County Probation Department.
