Saturday Sports: General Brown Football Falls To Holland Patent In Class Title GamePosted: Updated:
The Section 3 Class C football title on the line at the Carrier Dome Saturday afternoon as the 2nd seed General Brown Lions met top seed Holland Patent with a trip to the States on the line. Holland Patent strikes first, courtesy of it's defense. Hunter Tarbania intercepted a General Brown pass and returned it 45 yards for the touchdown. Holland Patent goes on top 7-0. Later in the first quarter, the Golden Knights look for more, but Jake Heller comes up with an interception in the end zone, stopping the drive.
Second quarter, its Jake Heller, this time on a 2 yard dive. The 2 point try is no good. Score: 7-6 Holland Patent at the half. Third quarter, Lions take the lead. Jake Heller to Deshaun Thorigal Brown from 5 yards out. Heller then muscles in a 2 point conversion. Score: 14-7 General Brown.
Now 4th quarter, Holland Patent ties it up as Nick Herringshaw hits Josh Ernst for a touchdown. Game tied at 14. Now late fourth quarter, Holland Patent scores as Nick Herringshaw sneaks it in, 21-14 Holland Patent. General Brown's last second chance falls just short as Holland Patent wins the Section 3 Class C Title, beating General Brown 21-14.
Last night at the Carrier Dome, two north country rivals met as Indian River battled Carthage for the Section 3 Class A Title. The night belonged to Warriors' senior running back, Kwaszi Gaddis, who had a pick 6, ran for 173 yards and scored 4 touchdowns as Indian River beat Carthage 33-21.
Girls' State Class D soccer action from Potsdam High School. Parishville Hopkinton met Chazy. Erika Sloan would score the game's only goal as Parishville Hopkinton beat Chazy 1-0 to advance to the state final 4.
Boys' State Class D Regionals from Potsdam High School as Heuvelton hosted Chazy. Chazy up 1-0, Justin Collins dents the back of the net. Score: 2-0 Chazy. Johnathan Trathen deflects one in for the bulldogs but Heuvelton falls to Chazy 8-1.
At the Girls Section 10 overall volleyball championship, Canton faces off against Massena. The Golden Bears got off to a winning start, outlasting the Red Raiders 25-22. But Massena would win the final three sets,25-16, 25-20 and 25-22, to win the Section 10 overall championship, 3 sets to 1. Pacing the Raiders attack were Gabby and Delaney Durant with 12 kills and 10 kills respectively, while Maria Sbaffo delivered 16 service points. The Bears were led by Sydney Lawrence with 8 kills, 1 block, one dig, four kills, 2 points and 3 aces.
On the ice, T.T. Cian-Farano scored late in the 2nd to break a scoreless tie. Clarkson would add goals from Emma Keenan and Mikayla Petzlova in the 3rd and go on to blank R.P.I. 3-0.
In Liberty League Football we have St. Lawrence at R.P.I. In the 1st quarter, 7-0 R.P.I. Tyler Groshot hits Anthony Ferarro for a 4 yard touchdown. Score: 8-7 St. Lawrence. In the 3rd quarter, the score is 20-8 R.P.I. Its Groshot to Travis Marnell for a 17 yard touchdown. 20-14 R.P.I. The Saints fall to R.P.I. 27-20.
