Home Destroyed By Fire in South Colton

Fire destroyed a home Friday at 57 Sugarbush Lane on the Raquette River in South Colton.

The fire was reported at about 6:40 p.m. by a neighbor who saw the flames from across the river. No one was home at the time.

The fire was well advanced when firefighters arrived and took about 20 minutes to bring under control.

“I was the first one here and saw that there were already flames coming out of the roof of the structure," said Colton Fire Chief Aaron Johnson. "The firefighters arrived with their trucks and the fire had quickly advanced to the other side of the structure and started to come out the roof over there as well.”

The St. Lawrence County fire investigation team is looking into the cause.

Firefighters from Colton, Pierrepont, Parishville, Potsdam and Hannawa Falls responded.
