Friday Night: Watertown's Square Lion Closes For Last Time

Posted: Updated:

It was closing time at the Square Lion Friday night, but this time it was different.

Owner Merritt Reynolds closed the store knowing everything inside would be auctioned off the next morning and the antique shop that's been around for decades will close.

"It hasn't really sunk in yet. We've been so busy I really hadn't time to think about it," said Reynolds.

Reynolds who took over the store in 2003, said since the store announced it's closing there has been a boom in business.

"We've done as much business I would guess in the last three weeks as we've done in the last 3 years," said Reynolds.

What was left was to be auctioned off Saturday morning. That included the two lions that sit in the store's front window and the lions are how the store originally got it's name.

"Hence the name square lion we're on public square and we had the cast iron lions in the front windows," said Reynolds.
