With only a week in advance, my dad, David Ebbrecht, came up with this idea of a mother holding her baby, with my head being the baby's. I immediately thought, "wow thats such a great idea!, we HAVE to do it!"
We had everything we needed to make this costume at home except for the mothers head, the baby's outfit, and the big blue sweatshirt, which we bought. After we had everything we needed, it took me and my dad two nights after school to complete it. My mom also helped by making my bonnet the first night we started, and the mother's skirt a long time ago, that had been in our dress-up clothes.
The Mother's head is taped to a thin cardboard material that is in the shape of a neck, which is connected to another horizontal cardboard tube, for the shoulders. There is Styrofoam glued to the cardboard shoulders, that comes down on my shoulders and ties around me so it doesn't move. There is a hole in the sweatshirt for my head to go through, and we sewed the baby"s outfit to the sweatshirt also.
i keep my arms tucked under the sweatshirt so no one can see them. I can walk, sit, or anything, and its really not that uncomfortable.
This kind of homemade Halloween costumes are my favorite. I really like the idea of having a costume that tricks people when they first look at you. An illusion is always fun! :)
