Françoise Piron and Mary Ellen Kalil Shevalier, authors of World Class, The Re-education of America, invite the public to join them at local book signing events. Piron and Shevalier, both teachers at South Jefferson Central School, have designed and co-taught a pilot 21st century class entitled “I am a citizen of the world, a course of study in media literacy and social issues.” Their book, released this month, illustrates through thirty years of journaling, the reason why educational reform is inevitable. World Class invites the reader to join the authors inside their classrooms and to follow through the trials and rewards of their newly designed course. As veteran teachers of diverse contents, the authors offer the gift of a clear educational process that they deem “a universal educational equation.” The book is written in layman’s terms and is designed to be equally appreciated by parents, students, teachers, and educational leaders alike. The authors believe in the importance of education as the singular most powerful tool that our country has to heal our communities, our nation and our world.
