Motorcycle Poker Run Event

The Society of the United Helpers will be hosting its first annual “Ride for the Residents” Motorcycle Poker Run on Saturday, August 27, 2011. Registration begins at 9:00 am at the United Helpers Ogdensburg Campus at 8101 State Highway 68 in Ogdensburg. Cost is $20 for the rider and $15 for the passenger and includes the ride, poker hand and a steak dinner. Pre-register before August 24th and an event t-shirt is included with your registration fee.

The 120 mile ride will start at 10:00 am and go from The United Helpers Ogdensburg Campus to St. Regis Nursing Home (Massena) to The United Helpers Maplewood Campus (Canton) to Mullins Restaurant (Gouverneur) to St. Joseph's Nursing Home (Ogdensburg) and end at The Knights of Columbus (Ogdensburg). Hotdogs and non-alcoholic beverages will be available at The United Helpers Maplewood Campus. The Activities Leader at all four nursing facilities will receive a bag of goodies for their residents.

Activities for the day include 50/50 raffles, prizes from many local area businesses, and live musical entertainment. Sponsors include Frary Medical Transport - Frary Funeral Home, the United Helpers Maintenance Department, Alltech Integrations Corp., Wal-Mart, Bonnie Castle Resort, Uncle Sam’s Boat Tours, Lowe’s, J.B. Sealcoat, Don Peck Auctions, Eric Farrand Tattoos, Hebel Welding & Machine, Bishop General Contracting, Mullins Restaurant, King Coat Sealing, Gardener’s, VIP Films, Pepsi, Fourth Coast Entertainment Magazine, and Stewarts.

If you can't make the poker run then come to The Knights of Columbus at 5:00 pm for dinner, your chance to win prizes, and entertainment by Original Country Artist and Former Frontman of CAIN Larry Holly (, Country Female Singer Lacey Stoddard (, and Original Rock/Pop Artist Shawn Stoddard ( Cost for just dinner is only $10 per person. Pre-registration is appreciated. Event t-shirts will be available for sale at The Knights of Columbus.

“In addition to this being a fundraiser, the poker run also serves as a social event for the residents,” said Lori A. Smithers, Development Director. “We encourage residents from each facility to come outside, take a look at the bikes, and engage in conversations with the drivers and riders.”
