The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in locating Shane L. Powell, date of birth 04/11/89, a white male, approximately 6'0", 160 pounds, brown hair and brown eyes. This individual’s vehicle, a 2003 Toyota 4-Runner, color silver was located unattended and believed to be abandoned on State Park Road in the Town of Lyme on November 12, 2011. It is unknown what Shane was wearing at the time of his disappearance or if he was in the company of other individuals. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has been in contact with Shane’s family and he has not been heard from by them in the last few weeks.
Shane is currently enlisted in the Navy, stationed in Pensacola, Florida and is listed as a deserter. Shane is not believed to be a danger to the public or the residents of the Town of Lyme. Our attempts to locate him are for Shane’s own well-being and consolation to his family after this period of time of not hearing from him.
A localized search was conducted in the Town of Lyme in the general area where the vehicle had been located. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office RAVE team, New York State Police helicopter and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Police also assisted in the search with negative results.
Attached is a picture of Mr. Powell. Keep in mind his hair style and facial hair may be different. If you have had contact with this individual or have seen someone resembling Shane L.
