My grandparents bought the couch from Massey’s Furniture Barn in 1979 with a matching chair to go with the antique wood walls in their living room. It has stayed in the same living room to this day and has been the relaxation spot of their children and grandchildren. Over 3 decades the couch has seen many styles come and go, but yet the couch’s brown, white, green, and black pattern has stayed the same. The couch has gazed in wonder at different chairs and beds that have come into the house with much better cushiness and coziness, but yet the couch has stood firm with its stiff back and prickly, unforgiving cushions. Even the living room that it has stayed in has seen remodeling and upgrades in technology over the years; however the couch remains the single lonesome piece of the 1970’s that won’t go away.
Like a family passing a priceless heirloom down from generation to generation, this couch is a 33 year old Rogers’ family legacy. The couch was passed down to me with my grandparents’ house and although my fiancé and I desperately need a new couch, it is not in the budget of two substitute teachers that are getting married in the fall. This couch has stuck around for 33 years for a reason, and that reason is to win the Massey’s Furniture Barn ugly couch contest. Please help this couch have a fairytale ending to a life that has gone on much longer than it should have.
