This year’s Ride for the Residents motorcycle poker run on August 25 will be more than a beautiful ride, a gorgeous array of bikes and a gathering of first-rate folks eager to help others. It will also serve as a social activity for residents of United Helpers’ 36 facilities, as well as residents of St. Regis Nursing Home by encouraging them to come outside, take a look at the bikes and engage in conversations with the drivers and riders.
“Last year it was a very productive ride,” said Becky A. Martin, who participated in the first Ride for the Residents event. “The food was excellent, the ride was well organized and the residents really got a lot of enjoyment out of the bikes showing up at their facilities.”
Registration begins at 10:00 am at the RiverLedge Campus at 8101 State Highway 68 in Ogdensburg with kickstands up at 11:00 am. The 116 mile ride will make stops at St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena, The United Helpers Maplewood Campus in Canton, Amvets in Heuvelton and end at Amvets in Ogdensburg. Hotdogs and non-alcoholic beverages will be available at the Maplewood Campus. Pre-registration is $20 for the rider and $15 for the passenger. Dinner only is $10.
All drivers/riders will receive the Society of the United Helpers second annual Ride for the Residents t-shirt, a poker hand, a mouth-watering steak dinner, and a chance to win an array of prizes from many local area merchants/businesses. Prizes include but are not limited to a cottage rental with use of a boat on Black Lake for one week, donated by North Country Cottages & Campgrounds; a 42" flat screen television, donated by Walmart and the Poker Run Committee; a two-way bike communicator, donated by Moody Rivers Cycle; an Uncle Sam Boat Tour package with a Picnic Basket; and a motorcycle jacket; donated by Fun Unlimited.
“Whether you ride, attend the dinner, or contribute through a donation, you can be part of a tremendous event that enhances the lives of those in your community,” said Lori Smithers, Development Director.
