Residents Excited For Motorcycle Run

The Society of the United Helpers will be hosting its second annual “Ride for the Residents” Motorcycle Poker Run on Saturday, August 25.

The rain or shine event will begin at 10:00 am at the RiverLedge Campus at 8101 State Highway 68, Ogdensburg, with kickstands up at 11:00 am. Cost is $20 for the rider and $15 for the passenger and includes the ride, poker hand, an event t-shirt and a steak dinner.

“I had a good time last year, said Josephine M. Poore, resident at St. Regis nursing home. “It was very interesting and I loved seeing all the beautiful, different motorcycles. I am looking forward to doing it again this year.”

The 116 mile ride will make stops at St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena, The United Helpers Maplewood Campus in Canton, Amvets in Heuvelton and end at Amvets in Ogdensburg. Hotdogs and non-alcoholic beverages will be available at the Maplewood Campus.

“The residents look forward to seeing all the motorcycles, said Amanda J. Ayotte; activities staff at St. Regis nursing home. “It is something different and out of the ordinary that the residents don’t get to do everyday.”

All registered drivers and passengers have a chance to win door prizes donated by many local vendors. However anybody is eligible to buy tickets for their chance to win a cottage rental with use of a boat on Black Lake for one week, donated by North Country Cottages & Campgrounds; a 42" flat screen television, donated by Walmart and the Poker Run Committee; a two-way bike communicator, donated by Moody Rivers Cycle; an Uncle Sam Boat Tour package with a Picnic Basket; a motorcycle jacket; donated by Fun Unlimited; and a home security system; donated by Alltech Integrations Corp. If you can't make the poker run then come to Amvets in Ogdensburg at 4:30 pm for dinner. Cost for just dinner is only $10 per person. Pre-registration is appreciated.

“There were a big group of motorcycles here last year, “said Julia Cosentino, resident at RiverLedge. “I loved seeing all the motorcycles and talking to the people. Everybody was very nice and I am very excited to go outside to see the motorcycles again this year.”
